Ratchadapisek and Khao San next week
About 500 employees of entertainment venues in the Royal City Avenue area underwent urine tests yesterday as part of a campaign against drug abuse.
Fourteen nightspots, including Morgan, Route 66 and Baby Blink, participated in the campaign backed by city police and anti-narcotics authorities.
Pol Lt-Gen Anant Piromkaew, city police commissioner, yesterday called on bar operators to take the campaign seriously and said the authorities would need public support to clamp down on drugs.
Employees found to have used drugs would receive treatment funded by the association of RCA bar operators, Pol Lt-Gen Anant said.
Next week, employees of entertainment venues on Ratchadapisek road and Khao San road would undergo the drug tests, he said.
Vichian Promthungkhor, president of the association, said the bar operators were aware of drug abuse among teenagers.
The campaign was aimed at restoring public confidence in the operators' ability to stamp out drugs.
Mr Vichian assured errant employees they could go back to work once they were treated for drug abuse.
